Kolkata, Oct 26: The city and its adjoining areas woke up to a cloudy sky and intermittent moderate to heavy showers, trigerred by a depression, which brought down the minimum and maximum temperatures by several degrees.
Sources at the Alipore Met department informed that a depression had formed over West Central Bay of Bengal and under its influence rain or thunder showers were likely to occur at many places over Gangetic and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal.
''The system is likely to intensify further and move slowly in a Northerly direction initially,'' the sources added.
The Met officials forecast heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places in coastal districts of West Bengal during the next 48 hours.
The Met office recorded about 3.2 mm of rainfall at Alipore since the past 24 hours while Dumdum registered 3.8 mm rainfall.
The minimum temperature was recorded at 21.7 degrees Celsius, one degree below normal, while the maximum was 26.5 degrees Celsius, four degrees below normal.
