Guntur, Oct 26 (UNI) As many as four cameramen of private satellite channels were injured when two groups of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) clashed on the national highway at the Nagarjuna University campus near here today.
Police said the trouble started when senior TDP leader Yanamala Ramakrishnudu came to oversee the arrangements for Yuva Garjana meeting, to be held at the university campus on November five and left the venue in a car, with partymen following him in their vehicles.
In the meantime, the vehicle belonging to Guntur TDP Corporator Sudhakar dashed against the vehicle in which the followers of TDP Youth President Srinivasa Rao were travelling.
Following which, followers of Sudhakar and Rao clashed with sticks. Some of them suffered injuries, police added.
Old disputes between Sudhakar and Rao was stated to be the main reason behind the clashes between the two groups.
The cameramen, who were covering the incident, were allegedly interrupted by the party State Sarpanches Forum Convenor Kolli Lakshmiah Chowdary and assaulted the cameramen, causing minor injuries to them.
Later, mediapersons staged a dharna at the TDP office here, demanding stringent action against Mr Chowdary.
Meanwhile, TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu warned the partymen that stringent action would be taken, if such incidents were repeated.
