New Delhi, Oct 25 (UNI) The 96th Indian Science Congress will be held at North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, from January 3-7, 2009.
This will be the first time that the Science Congress will be held in the North East in its 95-year history, Indian Science Congress Association General President T Ramasami announced last evening.
The focal theme of the Congress will be ''Science Education and Attraction of Talent for Excellence in Research'.
Addressing a press conference, NEHU Vice-Chancellor Pramod Tandon said funds would not come in the way of holding the Sceince Congress at the 25-year-old university.
To be inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on January 3, the event will be attended by eminent scientists, including Nobel laureates, captains of the industry, technocrats, policy-makers and academics.
An exclusive pavilion will showcase various achievements and the vision of development of North Eastern States and their rich culture and heritage.
''The pavilion will give a unique opportunity to entrepreneurs and various organisations and NGOs from the region to display their products and services,'' Dr Ramaswami, who is also Science and Technology Secretary, said.
