Local organisations oppose Grater Talacauvery project
Madikeri, Oct 25 (UNI) Kodagu Swabhimana Vedike and Budakattu Jananga organisation has opposed the Greater Talacauvery project saying it is against the interest of the people of Kodagu.
Talking to newspersons here today, B T Dinesh and Muthappa, member of the organisations said the Greater Talacauvery project which aims to preserve the area as a world heritage zone, would reduce the dwelling capacity of the Kodagu area and pose a threat to the livelihood of the people.
The project was mooted by the then Chief Minister S M Krishna, who, influenced by fake the environmentalists of Kodagu, had submitted a report to UNESCO to declare Talacauvery zone as a World Heritage spot, they said.
Claiming that Rs 6000 crore was earmarked to implement the project by vacating dwellers of the area, they urged the people's representatives and the government to give a serious thought to the problem and demanded to stop the project before its implementation.
