Pune, Oct 25 (UNI) India had a good day in the world junior badminton tournament, qualifying for the next round in the team championships from Group Y, being played at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports city, Balewadi here today.
India today blanked Sri Lanka 5-0 and then got the better of Singapore 4-1.
India had yesterday defeated Russia 4-1, but had suffered a set back when they went down fighting to Hong Kong 2-3.
India thus ended the Group Y league matches with a 3-1 record and moved ahead into the next round.
Indian coach Gopichand said afterwards that he was satisfied with the performance of the team and singled out teen sensation Saina Nehwal for special praise.
He also complimented the other players. Gopichand, however, added, that they will have to become stronger in the mixed doubles, where India had lost to deciding tie to Hong Kong yesterday and also lost the mixed doubles match against Singapore today.
