Margao, Oct 25 (UNI) A blitz of three goals in four minutes and superb performance by Odafe Okolie guided Churchill Brothers to rout newly promoted bottom placed Vasco Sports Club 4-1, after leading 3-0 at the breather in the ONGC I-league football championship match played here at Nehru stadium Fatorda today.
For Churchill, goals came through Odafe Okolie in the 40th, 44th, 62 minutes and Felix in the 41st minute. While Vasco reduced the margin in the 70th minute through substitue Agnelo Colaco.
With this win Churchill increased their points tally to 10 points from four outings while Vasco remained on the same one points from as many matches.
Churchill brothers started with a whirldwind fashion right from the begining. With a control of midfield play attack where duo Odafe Okoli and Felix Chimao gave a good account of themselves particualry in the first half and initiated a first move by Odafe as early as in the 8th minute and passed to Felix who after dodging pass rival defender Vicent Pires unleashed a shot which hit the goalpost and rebounded into the play.
Churchill had another chance to score in the 17th minute of the first half Chadam Singh after collecting a pass from Odafe made good attempt but his shot sailed over the bar.
In the 30th minute Churchill Genius Zenith came with a good move and passed on to better placed Odafe but his shot from the top of the box was well saved by rival goalkeeper Laximikant Kathimani.
Churchill drew first blood in the 40th minute through Odafe, who placed the ball into the net. The goal was following the flag kick by Zenith Genius to Gouramangi Singh whose header hit the cross bar and came down, Odafe who was inside the goal pounced upon the opportunity and just placed the ball into the goal to make the score 1-0.
Inspired by the lead, Churchill increased their lead in the next minute through Felix to make it 2-0. Odafe after dribbling past rival defender from the left flank pass Felix, who made no mistake to shot into the net.
A minute before the breather Odafe after collecting a pass from Vasum Reisang dodged past rival defender Yorkin Nazaro and also deceived advanced goalkeeper and neatly put ball into the goal to make it 3-0.
After leading by 3-0 at half time, Churchill further consolidated thier lead in the 62nd minute through Odafe off a well measured pass received from Naoba Singh to make it 4-0.
After down by four goals, Vasco came with only dangerous move in the 65th minute when Lalan Puia pass to Agnelo DSouza, who only to beat Churchill Goalkeepr Arindam Bhatcharya, his feeble shot went straight into the hands of the goalkeeper.
Vasco managed to recuced the margin in the 70th minute through substitute Agnelo Colaco whose shot from right flank Churchill goalkeeper collected but lost his balance and fell inside the far corner of the net along with the ball.
Churchill Brothers Odafe Okolie was later adudged the man of the match for his fine performance.
