Kakinada, Oct 25(UNI) The issue of atrocities against Scheduled Castes with special reference to Pottilanka village near Rajahmundry in East Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh and the alleged inaction of the officials in rendering justice to the aggrieved, rocked the East Godavari Zilla Parishad general body meeting here today.
Congress MP G Harshakumar from the Amalapuram reserved constituency alleged that officials delayed action against those who sanctioned loans by the SC Corporation to the tune of Rs 60 lakh under benami names during the TDP regime. Charging that despite the Collector's orders, action against erring officials had not been taken, he alleged that justice had not been rendered to the victims of Pottilanka where a Dalit was killed and properties of Dalits worth lakhs were destroyed by upper cast Hindus.
Alleging that the Collector and Ministers had promised to give Rs five lakh ex-gratia to the kin of the deceased but only Rs 1.5 lakh was paid he said even the Sub Inspector and the Circle Inspector who were suspended for their callousness were reinstated, against rules.
Several ZPTC members lent their voice to the MP and wanted the Collector to ensure speedy action and render justice to Dalits.
Both the Ministers- Gollapalli Suryarao and Pilli Subhas Chandra Bose urged the Collector to convene a special meeting exclusively inviting the SC members and MLAs to sort out the issues shortly.
