Belpahari,(W Midnapur), Oct 25(UNI) The Belpahari Nagarik Committee sponsored 12-hour bandh ended peacefully here today.
All markets, schools and other institutions remained closed and bus services were affected throughout Belpahari Block in response to the bandh.
This is for the first time that people at large in the area, who were so long demoralized by Maoists attacks in which 21 CPI(M) leaders and police personnel had been killed so far, became united and formed a Nagarik Committee protesting against such incidents.
In the latest attack a doctor, a nurse and the driver of the health department ambulance were killed in a landmine explosion near Laboni here on Thursday last.
Meanwhile Jhargram SDO Tanmoy Chakraborty said he has procured a copy of the 'apology' letter from one Bikash of Peoples' Democratic Liberation Army (PDLA) of West Midnapur, Bankura and Purulia unit expressing the party's apology to the common people for the last occurrence.
'' We are struggling against state anarchism. We reiterate that government employees, doctors and other people who are rendering services to our society are not our enemies. We are sorry for the incident and express our sympathy to the bereaved families,'' the letter read.
