Urs of Sheikh Nooruddin Wali on Oct 26 in JK

Srinagar, Oct 24: The annual urs of Sheikh Nooruddin Wali, known as Nundreshi and Alamdar Kashmir, will be celebrated on October 26 at Charar-e-Sharief in the central Kashmir district of Badgam, about 30 km from here.

The divisional administration has made adequate arrangements for the pilgrims, expected to visit the holy shrine from different parts of the valley, besides outside the state.

In the nineties, the holy shrine hit the headlines when the entire area was occupied by the militants for about a month before finally security forces recaptured it. The holy shrine and adjacent Khankah mosque were gutted during the operation.

A high-level meeting discussed the arrangements being made for the pilgrims, which included drinking water, electricity and transport facilities to devotees from different parts of the valley to holy shrine.

The Director Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Kashmir apprised the meeting that an additional quota of 15 kg of rice, one kg of sugar will be provided to ration card holders of the town.

Besides, 5000 litres of kerosene oil and sufficient quota of wheat floor would be kept at the disposal in the holy township during the Urs days.

Also, the Public Health Engineering department would install 15 additional water points and 2 water tankers would be pressed into service.
