Transport Corporation strike called off, teachers protest
Puducherry, Oct 24(UNI) The indefinite strike by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Puducherry Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) was called off on the third day today after the Corporation agreed to increase the wages for daily rated employees.
The Managing Director of the Corporation Mr Panneerselvam who held talks with representatives of JAC , agreed to enhance the wages of the daily rated employees from Rs 150 to Rs 224 and a G.O for the implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations to them.
Following this, buses started plying from 1300 hours today.
Meanwhile, Members of the Federation of Private School Teachers Associations,supported by the Conferderation of Puducherry State Government Employees Associations staged a dharna in front of the chamber of the Director of Education to protest the termination of six teachers from two private schools here today.
According to the agitators, the services of six teachers of two private schools were terminated and all efforts by the Federation to persuade the managements to reinstate them failed and now they are seeking the intervention of the government.
However, the government was yet to take action.
