Tendulkar inaugurates Dilip Vengsarkar Foundation's cricket academy

Pune, Oct 24 (UNI) Sachin Tendulkar today inaugurated Dilip Vengsarkar Foundation's cricket academy at Theargaon, around 25 km from here.

Indian Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was also present on the ocassion.

Speaking on the ocassion, Sachin said the academey will help young players to nurture thier talent, as best coaches will be available in the academy.

Vengsarkar said they have received 300 applications, but only 120 players will be selected.

The six acre plot where the academy stand is jointly owned by the Dilip Vengsarkar and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corportaion, which has given the plot on a lease of 30 years to the foundation. The academy will have trainees in four age groups 12, 14, 16 and 19.

Each group will have 25 players, who will be coached free of charge, Vengsarkar said.

Reacting to Adam Gilchrist's remarks on Sachin Tendulkar in his autobiography, former Indian Chief Selector said it was a ''marketing strategy''.

The PCMC has felicitated Sachin and Dhoni on this ocassion by presenting 'Puneri Pagdi', traditional Maharashtrian headgear, and a sword.

When asked about his reaction on Gilchrist remarks, Sachin refused to comment.
