Sessions judge orders police case against prisoners
Ambala, Oct 24 (UNI) Taking suo motu notice of the news reports about a tunnel found in the Ambala central jail, District and Sessions Judge B M Bedi ordered registration of case against the four prisoners concerned after conducting a surprise inspection of the jail here today.
On the direction from the judge, an FIR was lodged with the Baldevnagar Police station under section 224/34 IPC, for an attempt to escape from the jail against four criminals, including Sanjiv Kumar, facing death penalty for massacring his father-in-law Relu Ram, Punia MLA and seven others and Masood Akhtar, who was undergoing imprisonment for espionage, SHO Suraj Bhan informed newspersons.
The other two, Anand and Rajan from West Bengal were also undergoing imprisonment in murder cases, he added.
The District and Sessions Judge also took serious notice of the ''lapse'' on the part of the jail administration as the criminals had managed to collect instruments to dig up the tunnel for several days in the highly-guarded jail.
They had managed to dig up six feet deep and three feet wide tunnel from the cell which would have led to the outer wall of the jail.
