Rajiv Gandhi's statue vandalised
Chennai, Oct 24 (UNI) Miscreants vandalised a statue of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi at suburban Kodungaiyur, triggering protests by Congressmen and tension in the area.
Police said the bust size statue of the former prime minister was found damaged around 0700 hrs this morning.
As the news spread, about 20 Congress workers gathered in front of the statue and staged a 'road-roko' demanding action against the miscreants involved in the incident.
Traffic on the busy Manali road was affected for more than an hour, following the agitation.
Senior police officials rushed to the spot and pacified the agitators and promised steps to install a fresh statue.
