Petition against sports quota DSPs to come on Nov 10

By Staff

Chandigarh, Oct 24 (UNI) Punjab and Haryana High Court today adjourned till November 10, a writ petition seeking quashing of the appointment of cricketer Joginder and hockey player Mamta Kharab directly as DSP in Haryana police under the sportspersons quota.

The petitioner Inderpal Singh of village Shahpur in district Yamuna Nagar had pleaded that no due publicity to such a selection had been given which has led to failure of the consideration of some other notable sportsperson from the state.

The petitioner himself had represented India in international rowing events winning several gold and other medals, and was also an Arjuna Award holder.

The division bench of justices Mehtab Singh Gill and Augustine George Masih, during the hearing, indicated inclination to direct the state government to consider the candidature of the petitioner.

However, the counsel wanted to seek instructions from his client in this regard, leading to adjournment.
