BSP urges CEC to halt liquor sale in Chhattisgarh
Raipur, Oct 24 (UNI) Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) N Gopalaswamy, who is touring poll-bound Chhattisgarh, was today urged by the Bahujan Samaj Party to have liquor sale halted as soon as the notification for the hustings is issued.
The demand was made in a memorandum submitted to the CEC, election commissioners Navin B Chawla and S Y Qureshi by a BSP delegation that accused major parties of attempts to influence voters through distribution of liquor and clothes in previous polls.
The memo referred to the administration's ''discriminatory'' attitude by alleging that the latter was stern towards those who followed rules and a mute spectator towards the rest. The BSP welcomed steps taken by the Election Commission of India to ensure peaceful hustings.
