86 year-old woman died in house collapse

Mysore, Oct 24 (UNI) In a tragic incident, an 86 year-old woman was killed on the spot when roof of her house collapsed due to heavy rain which lashed the city last night.

Police said the woman Ms Annamari was found dead under the debris when her house collapsed completely in the early hours today.

The entire locality was in a low lying area and completely submerged in water. Neighbours who rushed to the spot on hearing the house collapse, struggled to remove her from the debris.

City Mayor Ayub Khan who visited the spot said there were about 500 small houses belonging to the weaker sections in the locality.

He said under the "Gruha Bhagya Scheme" one house would be allotted to the victim's family. He would also recommend to the Deputy Commissioner to give adequate compensation to the kin of the deceased.

Meanwhile, heavy rains lashed the city affecting normal life at various places. Water from leaking drainages entered the houses in the low-laying areas.
