Surat, Oct 23 (UNI) State Industries Minister Saurabh Dalal held a meeting with the members of the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) in connection with the upcoming two-day Gems and Jewellery Summit, to be held here on December 26 as part of 'Vibrant Gujarat Summit'.
He urged the Chamber and other trade bodies associated with the event to make it a grand success.
He said that the summit would provide an ideal platform for diamond entrepreneurs to interact with national and global majors of the sector. It would focus on knowledge sharing by eminent players of the gem and jewellery sector, he added.
Later, speaking to mediapersons here yesterday, Mr Dalal said, ''The Gem and Jewellery Summit, which has been christened Sparkle, will give an impetus to gem and jewellery industry of Gujarat. It will be an unprecedented event in the country focusing on the sector.'' While replying to a question, he said the event would attract investments, which would lead to creation of more employment opportunities.
The main motive of the event has to aid the industry to forge strategic alliances, which would help its growth, he added.
In reply to another question about recession plaguing the diamond industry, the minister said, ''There might be a slowdown, but we are confident that the diamond industry will tide over the crisis and continue to shine.'' We will continue to provide good infrastructure, right environment and liberal policies to support the diamond industry, the minister said, when asked if the State government was considering any special steps to support the crisis-hit industry.
