Retirement of senior players creats big gap: Jonty Rhodes

By Staff

Mumbai, Oct 23 (UNI) Former South Africa player Jonty Rhodes today said when three to four senior players retired from international cricket at a time it creates a big gap in a team as it requires more time to fill it.

Rhodes was in the city to promote United Vinters wines from south Africa.

Talking to reporters, Rhodes, who is more famous for his electrifying fielding, said South Africa did face the same problem after ace all rounder Shaun Pollock retired.

Speaking on Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar, he said ''Sachin is an amazing player who started playing at the age of 16 and is still going strong after achieving many records''.

Rhodes also commented on various forms of cricket,'' Test cricket Judge the mental and physical ability of the player while T-20 is the fantastic form of the game which is becoming more popular.'' Speaking about his former colleague and coach of Indian Team Gary Kirsten '' being an opener he is calm and composed and he is good behind the screen and not for the front page headlines.'' Jonty refused to say whether India ODI captain M S Dhoni should now take over as test captain or Anil Kumble should continue to carry on the same.
