Rape provoked bandh hits North Assam
Guwahati, Oct 23 (UNI) Life in Darrang and Udalguri districts was affected by a bandh today in protest against the alleged rape of two women by CRPF jawans.
Assam government spokesman Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said the victims would be examined by doctors from AIIMS as local physicians had not found any sign of rape.
However angry Bodos, led by Bodo Women Justice Forum, held a demonstration demanding punishment to the culprits.
''The CRPF jawans sought to be protected under the guise of medical tests,'' BWJF leader Dr Anjali Daimary said.
According to the victims' allegation the two were raped separately on Monday by the CRPF jawans. The victims had filed FIR.
However, their medical tests failed to prove rape forcing the authorities to cancel the identification parade.
This did not go down well with the Bodos who observed a bandh.
Angry Bodo agitators also attacked a number of vehicles on the National Highway.
