Fatehgarh Sahib, Oct 23 (UNI) Police has registered a case against students of SGPC-run Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College, here under various sections of the IPC.

Meanwhile, the students, who staged a dharna today also in front of the college demanding removal of the college principal for allegedlly making remarks against the Guru Granth Saheb, met a senior police officer for registration of case under section 295-A against him.

They said that if the principal wanted to apologise then he must appear before Akal Takht and added that they planned to lodge their protest before Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal who is visiting the district on October 24 in connection with a religious function.

The case against the students was registered on the complaint of Fatehgarh Sahib SHO, who alleged that the students had blocked the road in front of the college from both sides.

When SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar and Sirhind MLA Didar Singh Bhatti tried to pacify them, the students raised slogans and pelted them with stones, due to which mirrors of a car of Fatehgarh Sahib Tehsildar and other public vehicles were broken, the complaint said.

According to police sources, no arrests have been made so far in the case. The police has already drawn flak from various quarters for lobbing tear gas upon the students yesterday.
