Mysuru, Oct 23: The Mysore City Corporation (MCC) has gone online for enabling public to obtain details about the MCC, access birth or death certificates and file civic complaints for redressal.

It has uploaded data of about 4.80 lakh birth and death reports. Complaints can be lodged online either in English or Kannada and a complaint number can be obtained online itself, immediately after filing the complaint.

If a birth or death certificate is missing or found with incorrect details in the website, the person who requires the certificate can make an application for inclusion or correction. He can download the blank forms available in English or Kannada and send it to the MCC, after filling it up. The details can be accessed by going to the birth/death section in the website.

MCC has also set dates for uploading data relating to water supply bills, trade licences, building plan approvals and civic works. These details are required to be made available to the public as part of transparency in civic administration, under the norms laid down by the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM). Mysore is one of selected cities under the national project. It has been selected uner heritage cities.

The dates set for uploading these details are: Water supply bills by September-end, trade licence details by November-end, details relating to civic works by 2008 January-end, and building licence approvals by 2008 March-end. Uploading of data has already begun in the website www.mysorecity.gov.in

Issue of birth and death certificates and trade licences has been decentralized. MCCs nine regional offices have been authorised to issue these certificates in case required in person. All these days, one had to go to the MCC main office for these documents. Though online filing of application facility is created in the website, online issual of these certificates will take some more time.

Besides the newly created facility of online complaint filing, the grievances cell in the MCC has been computerized and complaints will be registered between 6 am and 10 pm Similarly, one can register grievances relating to water supply or underground drainage in any of the dozen water supply service stations and complaints relating to streetlights with any of the three private parties, entrusted with the work of its maintenance.

The MCC registers annually around 30,000 births and deaths, issues 14,500 trade lincences and 15 to 20 building licenses per day. Majority of the complaints relate to water supply and underground drainages.

Continuing its efforts to improve cleanliness in the city, the MCC has taken up garbage removal in 24 civic wards by entrusting the work to a trust from August 1. Rest of the wards will be covered by September. Mysore is among the 57 cities in Karnataka deploying the Municipal eGovernance modules of property tax, financial accounting, GIS mapping, public grievance and redressal, birth and death certification, and ward works. The module is developed by the e-Government Foundation, in coordination with the Urban Development Department. Presently, it has 10 links, including a GIS digital mapping, for providing transparency, accountability and smoother delivery of services to citizens., say the officials.
