MDMK members raise Vaiko's arrest issue in Lok Sabha
New Delhi, Oct 23 (UNI) The Lok Sabha today witnessed acrimonious scenes when a member of the Marumalarchi DMK (MDMK) suddenly raised the demand for the release of his party General Secretary Vaiko who has been arrested in Chennai on charges of supporting the banned Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
The member, Mr C Krishan, raised the demand while he was participating in a discussion on the Central Universities Laws (Amendment) Bill.
When he persisted with the Vaiko issue, Mr Varkala Radhakrishnan, who was in the chair at that time, wondered whether the demand was in any way connected with the Bill.
Mr Krishan, along with his party colleague S Ravichandran, rushed to the Well of the House, raising their demand. Few from the DMK member too moved to the well and heated exchanges followed between both sides.
When the situation seemed to be going out of control, Deputy Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal who by then had occupied the chair, asked the agitated members to take their seats.
The situation was soon under control and the discussion on the Bill resumed.
