MDMK leader Kannappan arrested for supporting banned LTTE
Coimbatore, Oct 23(UNI) The ''Q'' Branch police today arrested Opposition MDMK Presidium Chairman and former Union Minister M Kannappan on charges of supporting the banned LTTE.
They arrested Mr Kannappan at his house in Alampalayam, near Pollachi in Coimbatore district, this evening.
Mr Kannappan was being taken to Chennai for judicial remand.
During the state-wide meeting organised by the MDMK to support the cause of Sri lankan Tamils, Mr Kannappan had said the MDMK would not hesitate to revive the demand for a separate Tamil Eelam if the Centre did not stop arms assistance to Lanka and take steps to end the atrocities against the Tamils.
His arrest also came barely minutes after his leader and MDMK Chief Vaiko was arrested in Chennai on similar charges.
