Chandigarh, Oct 23 (UNI) Carmel Convent, Chanakayapuri, Delhi defeated Mount Carmel, Sector 47, Chandigarh by 2-0 in the match to decide third and fourth positions in the girls under-19 section of the the CBSE North Zone Tennis Championship being played at the St Peter's Tennis Academy in Sector 37 here today.
Smriti defeated Komal Kharti in the first match by 8-0 and Debarati beat Joanna Angel Thomas by 8-3 in the second fixture.
Hosts St Peter's Secondary School will lock horns with Carmel Convent School, Chandigarh tomorrow in an all-Chandigarh girls under-19 final. Peter's and Carmel Convent scored an identical 2-0 verdict over their respective rivals in the semi-finals played today. St Peter's blanked Mount Carmel School, also of Chandigarh, by 2-0 and Carmel Convent, chd accounted for Carmel Convent School, Delhi with the same margin.
Shivika gave Peter's a winning start as she defeated Joanna in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 in the first singles. Avneet proved too good for Komal as she registered a facile win without dropping even a single game 6-0, 6-0.
Ikttesh Chahal outpointed Smriti in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 in the first singles to give Carmel Convent 1-0 lead against Carmel Convent School, Chanakyapuri, Delhi. Later Deepali snuffed out the challenge of Tusharika 6-3,6-4 to wrap up the semi-final contest.
In girls under-14 Carmel Convent School, Chandigarh also took their appointed place in the girls under-14 final after beating Apeejay School, Delhi by 2-0. Their rivals in the final tomorrow will be Central Reserve Police Force School, Rohini, Delhi who ousted Bal Bharati Public School, Pitampura, Delhi by 2-0.
St John's School, Sec-26, Chandigarh will challenge Hans Raj Model School, Punjabi Bag, New Delhi for the boys under-14 team championship.
