Two girls faint as police lobs tear gas shells
Fatehgarh Sahib, Oct 22 (UNI) Two girls fell unconscious after police lobbed tear gas shells to disperse agitating students of the Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College here today.
The students, who were raising slogans against the Principal, burnt his effigy and pressed for his immediate removal, alleging that he had made remarks against the holy book and not allowed them to organise a religious function on the occasion of Gurta Gaddi Diwas.
The situation was brought under control after senior police officials intervened and assured agitated students of looking into the matter.
During their protest, the students had also met SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar amid heavy police presence but he could not pacify the them with his offer of forming a fact finding committee.
