Chennai, Oct 22 (UNI) Even as the ruling DMK is gearing up to organise a human chain rally here on October 24 to protect the Sri Lankan Tamils, Congress leaders in the State are up in arms, demanding action againts those supporting the banned LTTE.
After a meeting of party MLAs, Congress Legislature Party Leader D Sudharsanam, talking to newspersons, asked the DMK government to take stern action against those offerring support to the outlawed LTTE.
Referring to the alleged speeches given by some actors and directors openly supporting the Tamil Tigers, after they took out a rally in support of the Lankan Tamils, the Congress leader said, ''The government should take action against those who supported the LTTE and its leader V Prabakaran.'' Senior Congress Legislator C Gnanasekaran demanded detention of Directors Seeman and Ameer under the National Security Act (NSA) for allegedly supporting the LTTE and justifying the assassination of Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
TNCC President K V Thangabalu had already criticised the Tamil film industry for their provocative speeches.
Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had also concurred with the Congress leader that some of those who had addressed the rally in Rameswaram, had exceeded their limits.
The Cuddalore District Congress unit, meanwhile, adopted a resolution demanding the arrest of Mr Seeman and Mr Ameer under NSA.
Raising slogans against the LTTE, the partymen burnt the effigy of Mr Prabakaran. In a resolution, they urged the Central Government to prevail upon the Sri Lankan government to arrest the LTTE leader and deport him to India to face trial in the Rajiv Gandhi Assassination Case.
