'Tehrahavi' of monkeys performed in UP

Varanasi, Oct 22 (UNI) The 'Tehrahavi' ritual of six monkeys, who were recently shot dead by air gun, was performed by the activists of Ganga Sewa Mahasangh -- a social organisation on the campus of the famous Sankat Mochan temple here.

On the occasion, a feast for the monkeys 'bandar mahabhoj' was also organised, in which fifty kilograms of apples, 100 dozen banana and sweets were served to the monkeys yesterday.

After the feast a 'shradhanjali sabha' was held, in which the participants prayed for the peace of the souls of the monkeys.

Six monkeys were shot dead by air gun at Vijaydashmi festival on October 9 last in Rashmi Nagar area of the city. The locals have lodged FIR against unknown persons in the connection.

The 'Dashswan' of the monkeys was performed at Kedar ghat.

Meanwhile, the workers of the Mahasangh have demanded for the arrest of the culprits involved in the killing of innocent monkeys.
