Guwahati, Oct 22 (UNI) President Pratibha Patil left the Assam capital this morning for Shillong in Meghalaya on the penultimate day of her maiden five-day visit to the North-East region after assuming the presidentship.
On her arrival at the ALG helipad, Shillong, the President will be received by Meghalaya Governor Ranjit Shekhar Mooshahary and Chief Minister Donkupar Roy. From there, Ms Patil will straightaway proceed to lay the foundation stone of the third phase of the Greater Shillong Water Supply project.
The President was seen off by Assam Governor, Shiv Charan Mathur and Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi at the Guwahati Airport.
She will inaugurate the Baljek airport at Tura, tomorrow.
Earlier here on Sunday, the President gave away the Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Award for 2006 to Editor-in-chief, Indian Express, Shekhar Gupta and for 2007 to film actress and social activist Shabana Azmi. The actress could not attend the function due to unavoidable circumstances.
On Monday, the President gave away the Nirmal Gram Puraskar to representatives of gram panchayats from thirteen states including Assam, Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh and Bihar.
Yesterday, she laid the foundation stone of Tezpur Medical College and attended the Sainik Sammelan at 4 Corps in the same district.
The President will return here on Friday to fly back to New Delhi on the same day.
