Lucknow, Oct 22 (UNI) Samajwadi Party supremo and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today thanked the people of the state for their 'outright' support in the party' agitation against the misrule of the Mayawati government.
''We are receiving spontaneous support from the masses during our three-day-long 'Ghera Dalo, Dera Dalo' agitational programme against the BSP government which started yesterday,'' Mr Yadav said, alleging that the police used force in at least 40 districts on the peaceful demonstration.
Talking to mediapersons here, Mr Yadav said a party MLA was critically injured in Banda during the agitation, when a SDM attacked him with sticks.
''Police used lathicharge on the SP workers, while thousands were put in jail without proper fooding or lodging arrangements,'' he claimed, adding that the atrocities of the state administration would not deter the party workers from violating the prohibitary orders.
The former Chief Minister said the support of the people in the SP's agitational progamme proves that masses were now fed up with the BSP government and have opposed the misuse of government funds in the name of parks and statues.
Calling upon the people to continue their support to the SP to play a decisive role in overthrowing the BSP govermnent and bringing an end to the corruption, he also asked the party workers to make the agitation fully successful.
