K'taka Govt asked to pay Rs 50 lakh per acre acquired for airport
Mysore, Oct 22 (UNI) The Mysore District Administration today decided to recommend Karnataka Government for a compensation of Rs 50 lakh per acre of land to be acquired for upgradation of Mandakali Airport on the outskirts of the city.
A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting here chaired by Deputy Commissioner P Manivannan. The meeting was attended by more than 200 farmers.
The government had issued notification to acquire 183 acre of land for taking up second stage upgradation works of the airport.
Speaking at the meeting, Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) President K S Puttannaiah, demanded the compensation should be fixed at Rs 1.5 crore per acre.
However, his demand was rejected and it was decided to recommend Rs 50 lakh per acre.
Mr Manivannan assured compensation for the standing crops and investments made by the farmers in their land.
He said the appeal by the farmers for jobs in the airport to one member per family, which would lose land, would be considered.
