Kerala Govt to submit report on Agri in Kuttanad
Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 22 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan today said the government would submit a detailed project report for Rs 500 crore to the Union Government for the comprehensive development of the agriculture sector in Kuttanad and providing infrastructure facilities for farming.
The decision was taken at the first meeting of the Kuttanad Prosperity Council, formulated according to the Dr M S Swaminathan Foundation Report, to solve the agricuture crisis in Kuttanad, a release said here.
After the meeting, The Chief Minister, who presided over the meeting, said in the first phase it would prepare 131 detailed project reports for the construction of outer bounds in Kuttanad.
The expected cost was Rs 150 crore.
Besides entrusting the IIT, Madras to prepare a project report for the reconstruction of Rs 160 crore Thanneermukam Bund, it also decided to authorise a consortium of CWRDM and Kerala Agriculture University to prepare the project report for the Thottapally Spillway, he added.
The meeting also decided to authorise a consulting agency to prepare a project report and submit it in three months for the renovation of wetland, roads and canals in Kuttanad.
