Shimla, Oct 22 (UNI) Himachal Kisan Sabha today said that it will held a mass rally tomorrow in support of milk producers of the state demanding hike in milk prices.
"It is shocking that when the milk sold in the state ranges from Rs 22 to Rs 24, the local milk producers are being given a paltry sum of just Rs 8 by the milk federation of the state," Himachal Kissan Sabha president Tikender Singh Panwar said.
Extending full support to the agitating milk producers, particularly of Rampur region, Mr Panwar demanded that the government should immediately intervene and a minimum price of Rs 20 per litre should be announced for the milk.
"The cost of production of milk has increased substantially and it is extremely difficult for the milk producers to sustain with the present amount for the milk. Moreover, the government was continuing to decrease the subsidy on cattle feed, which has worsened the condition of the producers," he said.
Meanwhile, on the call of the Himachal Kissan Sabha no milk supply was made available in the Rampur region where on an average 10000 litres of milk is sold daily.
