Guv gives away 17th Godfrey Phillips Bravery Awards

Shimla, Oct 22 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Governor Prabha Rau gave away the 17th Godfrey Phillips Bravery Awards here today.

Ramesh Kumar Nayak of Haryana received the gold medal of Physical Bravery Award. The silver medal went to Dr Virendera Dutt Sharma from Himachal while Kripal Singh Thakur also of Himachal was awarded with bronze for bravery. The special award under Physical Bravery category was received by Punjab's Rajinish Pathania.

Social Acts of Courage Gold Award for women was conferred on Goaddi Women's Self Help Group of Himachal while the silver was given to Haryana's Vinod Kumar Kanathia and Abdul Ghani of Himachal was awarded with bronze. The special award under this category was given to 'Aagaz', a NGO from Punjab.

Punjab's Sangeeta Deol was honoured with the 'Mind-of-Steel' award.

The Godfrey Phillips Bravery Awards were instituted in 1990 to appreciate the efforts of selfless services offered by civilian to this nation.
