Delhi beat Punjab in North Zone Cricket
Patiala, Oct 22 (UNI) In a ding-dong battle, Delhi defeated Punjab in North Zone Inter-State one-day cricket tournament (Under-19) for Vinoo Mankad Trophy here today at the Dhruv Pandove Stadium.
Winning the toss and batting first, Punjab could muster only 206 runs in 49 overs before being all out. Junior World Cup keeper Perry Goyal scored a painstaking half century (55), hitting 2 mighty sixes, facing 80 balls.
Yuvraj Singh was unbeaten on 27. The other batsmen to get into double figures were S Loomba (25) and H Chawla (22).
For Delhi, Yogesh Nagar bowled his heart out to capture 4 wickets, conceding 50 runs. Manan Sharma was the perfect foil to Nagar, claiming 3 wickets, giving away 33 runs.
In reply, Delhi scored 207, losing 7 wickets to score a thrilling victory. It was flamboyant Nagar who powered Delhi to victory. He scored a scintillating ton (109) and was unbeaten. He smacked 11 fours in his 144-ball innings. T Yadav (33) and Kartik Abbi (19) were the other main run getters.
For Punjab, southpaw L Seth and Deepak Bansal took 2 wickets each, giving away 21 and 41 runs respectively.
