Cong hails scientists for Chandrayaan launch

New Delhi, Oct 22 (UNI) The Congress today hailed the scientific community for the successful launch of Chandrayaan I, an unmanned Moon mission, and said it reflected India's successful efforts for self-reliance in science and technology.

''It's a historic day for India to have joined the group of six countries who have sent missions to the Moon,'' Congress spokesman Manish Tiwari told reporters.

On behalf of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, he congratulated those associated with the mission and its success.

He said the mission was a big victory for the Indian scientists.
