Kochi, Oct 22 (UNI) Cochin Port Trust (CPT) and Kerala Tourism Department will host a major business conclave coinciding with the Volvo Ocean Race stopover from December three to 13 in the city.
Speaking to reporters here today, CPT Chairman N Ramachandran said the conclave being organised under the aegis of the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) would serve as a platform to build network for scores of businessmen coming from different parts of the world.
The conclave would enumerate the various opportunities and potential of the state and would be a gateway for future investments in Kerala, he said.
Mr Ramachandran said an exhibition of Indian brands named 'Ocean Race Trade Fest' would be organised during it and a 300 m long exhibition hall would house more than 250 stalls.
Participants from sectors like manufacturing, real estate, lifetsyle, fashion accessories, home appliances, financial institutions, food processing, gems and jewellery, shipping and logistics and hospitality would find place in the trade fest, he added.
Earlier, Mr Ramachandran symbolically handed over the first two slots of the exhibition to CGH Earth and Harrisons Malayalam Ltd.
The exhibition would be conducted by Chrysalis Private Ltd and would be an opportunity for launching products and services as the stopover offers international visibility, he said.
The development work for hosting the event was progressing at a brisk pace and the infrastrcuture built for the stopover would be used by CPT for its future operations, he said.
Besides, a 600m long promenade would be constructed for the stopover, which would used by the public, he added.
The race was flagged off from the Spanish port town of Alicante on October 11. After Cape Town, Kochi would be the second stopover for the race, which would also halt at Singapore, Qingdao (China), Rio de Janeiro, Boston, Galway (Ireland), Goteborg and Stockholm before reaching the finishing line at St Petersburg, Russia, in June, next year.
