BRO expand wings in Arunachal
Itanagar, Oct 22 (UNI) In order to speed up construction of roads in the state Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has created Arunak, another Border Road Task Force (BRTF).
Official sources said here today that the new task force under the charge of a chief engineer would set up its office at Gorubanda along the Assam-Arunachal border, where Papum Pare district administration had allotted 30 hectares of land.
With this, the number of BRTF engaged in road development work in Arunachal will go up to three with project Vartak and Udayak already functioning.
The border road construction in Arunachal received a major boost with the Centre allocating Rs 600 crore to Project Vartak for 2008-09, a triple jump from the previous year's annual allocation of only Rs 200 crore.
Project Udayak, looking after the eastern sector bordering China and Myanmar, had also received a hike in allocation.
Of the 70 roads being built by the government on Sino-India border 20 are under Vartak in the Arunachal sector, which have been mandated to be completed by 2012.
