Mumbai, Oct 21 (UNI) Violance erupted in several parts of the city and state following the arrest of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray at early hours today from the circuit house in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra.
Angry activists of MNS came out on the streets after the arrest of Raj Thackeray and attacked several taxis and autorickshaws at Mumbai Central, Parel, Borivali and other parts of the city.
Incidents of arson were also reported from the Mulund Check naka in eastern suburbs. A mob of party workers have also blocked the Mumbai-Goa highway.
Police said security has been beefed up across the city to meet any eventuality in the wake of arrest of Thackeray. State Reserve Police (SRP) has also been deployed nearhis residence at Dadar as well as outside the Bandra court, where he would be produced in this afternoon.
He was arrested under several Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections including assault, obstructing government officials from discharging their duty and giving provocating speech.
