Imphal, Oct 21: In the wake of repeated attacks on the official residence of Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh by cadres of the proscribed People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), District Magistrate, Imphal West on Tuesday, Oct 21 promulgated prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC.
Assembly of more than five people and carrying of firearms has been disallowed in the state capital.
The people have been asked to take prior permission for carrying out processions for marriages or religious functions.
District Magistrate A Ibocha Singh also banned the use and the sale of crackers in view of the law and order situation in the city areas.
Meanwhile, the police also beefed up security near the Chief Minister's complex and the city areas.
The latest attack came on Sunday night when PREPAK cadres threw a bomb near the gate of the Chief Minister's residence.
However, no one has been arrested so far in this connection, police said.
The government has decided to station more security personnel in the vicinity of the Chief Minister's residence.
DGP Y Joykumar said the Chief Minister's residence and the Raj Bhawan were highly vulnerable as both complexes were adjacent to the busy National Highway 39 and there were too many high buildings nearby.
Frisking thousands of vehicles which pass through the main roads, especially the highway, cannot be done and the state police had temporarily stopped movement of vehicles near Ibobi Singh's residence which caused hardships to the people.
Manipur police has decided to conduct aerial surveys and instal close circuit television cameras in the vulnerable and VIP areas.
Barricades are put up on one side of the road and vehicles are allowed only on the other side in the night.
All the routes coming to the Chief Minister's residence are being monitored and security personnel are stationed.
