Pakistani club holds Bharat Petroleum in Surjit hockey

Jalandhar, Oct 21 (UNI) Exhibiting Asian style of hockey, Javed Club, Gojra (Pakistan) held star studded, Bharat Petroleum, Mumbai to a 3-3 draw in the Silver Jubilee Indian Oil Servo Surjit Hockey Tournament today.

In a Pool 'B' fast paced encounter at the Surjit Hockey Stadium here, Bharat Petroleum took an early lead in the 6th minute of the play when centre forward Amar Aiyama netted the ball from a pass from inside right Saby Virky (1-0). The boys from Pakistan equalised in the 20th minute through a field goal by Olympian Tariq Aziz.

However, four minutes later, Amar Aiyama got his second goal of the match to put the oilmen 2-1 ahead.

In the 29th minute the Mumbai boys increased their lead when Sabu Verky sounded the board (3-1). However, a minute later, the Javed Club boys launched a counter attack to reduce the margin through Khashif Ali who scored a field goal (2-3).

After the breather, Javed Club got the equliser in the 48th minute after their star striker Tariq Aziz was brought down in the penalty area and the refree awarded a penalty stroke. Kashif Ali made no mistake with the stroke (3-3).
