MP Manorama resigns, to join Congress
Malpe, Karnataka, Oct 21 (UNI) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament from Udupi Manorama Madhwaraj today said that she has sent her resignation to the Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee and has decided to join Congress.
Addressing a press conference at her residence here, Ms Madhwaraj said that she had undergone humiliation and insult by BJP State and local leaders for supporting the agitation against proposed coal based Thermal Power project in the District. " No leader from the party supported me in the struggle against the project instead they humiliated me and hence I am quitting the MP post and the party." Ms Madhawaraj had been suspended from the party by BJP for voting in favour of UPA government against the party whip during Confidence motion in the Parliament on Indo-US Nuclear deal.
Replying to a question, she said that " I have already sent my resignation to the Lok Sabha Speaker and there is no need to send another resignation letter or inform the BJP leadership." She said that she would soon go to Delhi and hold talks with Congress President Sonia Gandhi on issue of joining her party (Congress) To another question, Ms Madhawaraj clarified that she would not contest in any election in future since it needs huge funds which she cannot afford.
