Kalam stresses need for inspiring teachers to guide students

Hyderabad, Oct 21 (UNI) Former President A P J Abdul Kalam today stressed the need for inspiring and innovative teachers, who could guide young minds to become empowered students.

Addressing a National Seminar on School Education, organised by Byrraju Foundation, a non-profit organisation, Dr Kalam said, ''My teachers have been a major source of influence and inspiration and have played a key role in shaping my life.'' ''Today, we need to have inspiring teachers to guide young minds through research and inquiry, through creativity and innovation and to produce life learners, who will respect and question authority, creating empowered students,'' he added.

About 200 participants, including teachers, students and representatives from the government and NGOs from different parts of India participated in the seminar and discussed the way forward to meet the challenges in various aspects of school education. Byrraju Foundation Chief Integrator and Lead Partner Verghese Jacob said to transform the quality of education in government schools in rural areas, we need to develop new and very innovative models of public private partnership.
