HP to launch soil testing campaign from Nov 1-5
Shimla, Oct 21 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh Agriculture Department would launch a special campaign, 'Apni Mitti Pachano Abhiyan', for soil testing from November 1 to 5.
During the five-day campaign, 50,000 soil samples would be collected from all the districts of the state, Agriculture Department Director JC Rana said.
Awarness camps would be organised in districts and at block the level in which farmers could submit their soil samples to agriculture scientists and report would be issued in the shortest possible time.
Besides soil testing facility in each district, two mobile soil testing vans would also be put into service to collect and analyse samples in the remote and far-flung areas.
The purpose of the campaign is to utilise the optimum potential of the soil, use of appropriate chemical fertilzers, growing suitable crops as per the land cabability and help farmers to use balanced use of nutrients and manures.
He said that in a year, one lakh soil samples would be collected, analysed and soil health cards would be issued to farmers.
The Department has set the target to issue soil health cards to all the farmers of the state by the end of 11 five year plan, he added.
