Dr VK Garg appointed JERC Chairman for Goa and UTs

New Delhi, Oct 21 (UNI) Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde administered the Oath of Office and Secrecy to Dr V K Garg as Chairman, Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) for Goa and Union Territories (UTs) except Delhi, here today.

Prior to his appointment in JERC, Dr Garg was Chairman and Managing Director of Power Finance Corporation Ltd(PFC). Having begun his career in Indian Economic Service (1973), he has served in various capacities in the Industry and Finance Ministries and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) besides PFC.

Dr Garg holds degrees in MBA, PhD.(Business Administration) and MA (Economics) with specialisation in Money and Public Finance.

JERC is responsible for determination of tariff, regulation of electricity purchase and procurement process of distribution licensees, facilitation of intra-state transmission and wheeling of electricity, issuance of licenses to transmission licensees, adjudication upon disputes, enforcement of standards with respect to quality and continuity and reliability of service by licensees.
