Consumer forum asks service agent to replace mobile
Chennai, Oct 21 (UNI) A consumer forum here has asked a service agent of mobile phone major Nokia to replace a handset and pay compensation of Rs 5,000 and Rs 3,000 in cost to a person who suffered deficient service and mental agony after purchasing the phone.
The Chennai South District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum passed the order recently on a complaint lodged by Advocate K V Sanjeev Kumar.
The complainant purchased a handset in August 2006 from Vivek and Co, Chennai and it 'crashed' in January 2007.
In March 2007, he filed the complaint stating that despite several reminders and requests, the authorised service agent failed to repair the set and hand it over to him.
He claimed he had lost several contacts due to the repair and suffered mental agony, too.
The service agent, Quantum Telesys, said the mother board of the instrument was defective.
Though the company was ready to replace the instrument, the complainant was not willing to collect it.
The Forum comprising its President P Rosiah and Member I Y Malliga allowed the complaint and asked the service agent to hand over a new mobile phone to Mr Sanjeev Kumar within six weeks.
They asked the company to pay compensation of Rs 5,000 in addition to Rs 3,000 as case cost within six weeks.
