Shimla, Oct. 20 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Horticulture Minister Narender Bragta today inaugurated two-day workshop on 'Users Requirement of Weather and Climate in Western Himalayas'at Hotel Holiday Home here.
Mr Bragta sugessted that the entire Himalayan Region from Jammu and Kashmir to Uttrakhand should be given special status for weather services, considering the region was more prone to disastrous weather events becasue of specific terrain and had the fragile environment.
He emphasized the need for immediate installation of a Doppler's weather Radar at Shimla so that the impending disastrous weather events should be communicated to all the concerned as soon as possible.
Mr Bragta also assured the possible co-ordination, like allocation the land for setting up of infrastructure for Meteorological Centre in the state.
The Meteorological Centre Shimla has organised the event and DGM of Indian Met Department, Dr. Ajit Tyagi presided over the workshop.
Mr Ajit Tyagi, who also stressed upon the need for improving the weather services for the hilly region, assured that Doppler radar would be established at Shimla on priority basis.
Dr Tyagi also highlighted the climate change issues and informed that as per latest report of the inter-Government Panel on Climate Change, the Glaciers in the Himalayas were receding at much faster rates than in many other parts of the states.
