Chennai, Oct 20 (UNI) Leaders of various political parties and people from all walks of life would join hands in a human chain rally in the city tomorrow, demanding that the Sri Lankan government stop the 'genocide' against the Tamils immediately.
Chief Minister and DMK President M Karunanidhi would inaugurate the rally in front of the Chennai District Collectorate office and witness the human chain agitation by visiting the entire stretch.
The human chain is likely to stretch beyond the city limits of Tambaram.
Barring the main opposition AIADMK, its ally, the MDMK, the DMDK, headed by actor Vijayakanth and BJP, leaders of all political parties and pro-Lankan Tamil organisations are expected to participate in the rally, which slated to begin at 1500 hrs.
These four parties had boycotted the all party meeting, convened by the DMK government on October 14. Mr Karunanidhi had also said there was no point in inviting these parties for the human chain rally.
The ruling DMK has given the call for the rally to highlight the resolutions adopted at the all party meeting on the Lankan Tamils issue.
A resolution, adopted at the meeting, served an ultimatum to the Manmohan Singh government at the Centre, stating that it should prevail upon the Lankan government to declare ceasefire by October 28, failing which, MPs from Tamil Nadu would resign enmasse.
The Human Chain rally is to prevail upon the Centre to put an end to the sufferings of Tamils in Sri Lanka, Mr Karunanidhi had said.
''It is being organised to tell the world that the Tamils, not only in Tamil Nadu, but those living elsewhere in the world, are agitated over the attacks on their brothers and sisters in Sri Lanka and want an end their sufferings'', he had said.
Various wings of the DMK have exhorted partymen to participate in the rally in large numbers. All the political parties, including PMK, CPI(M), CPI are joining the rally.
Besides political parties, organisations like Dravidar Kazhagam (DK) and Tamil National Movement, led by P Nedumaran are joining hands for the sake of the Tamils in the island.
The human chain agitation is being organised after the Tamil film industry took out a massive rally at Rameswaram on October 19, expressing solidarity with the Lankan Tamils.
