Punjab to host first national livestock show at Muktsar

Moga, Oct 20 (UNI) Punjab would hold its first national livestock show on the eve of the popular Maghi mela at Muktsar district in which hundreds of rearers are expected to bring their animals.

In view of the enthusiasm and interest shown by cattle and other animal rearers in the state-level livestock show in which traders of horses, mares and other livestock from neighbouring states, including Rajasthan, had participated in large numbers last year, the department of animal husbandry had decided to organise a national level livestock show from January 11 to 13 next year, Minister for animal husbandry, dairy and fisheries Gulzar Singh Ranike said here.

He was presiding over the concluding day prize distribution function yesterday of the three-day zonal livestock show of Ludhiana zone comprising Hoshiarpur, Nawanshehar, Ludhiana, Moga and Barnala districts, at Badowal .

The minister stated that the state government was determined to develop dairying and fisheries in the state on the foreign pattern and planned to hold three more Zonal competitons of livestock within next two months.

In Ludhiana zonal livestock show, about 1400 animals were put on show and a large number of animals were traded.

Ludhiana district won first prize followed by Moga district in the overall animal show.
