Pondy seeks Centre's help in Lankan's Tamil issue
Puducherry, Oct 20: The Puducherry Legislative Assembly on Monday, Oct 20 adopted an unanimous resolution seeking the intervention of the Centre in safeguarding the interest of the Tamils in the island nation and to prevent attacks on Tamil fishermen by the Lankan Navy.
The private member resolutions tabled by Mr S P Sivakumar (DMK), Mr R K R Anatharaman (PMK) and Mr P R Siva (MDMK) on the issue was converted into a government resorution and unanimously adopted.
Chief Minister V Vaithilingam, tabling the government resolution, said the members were pained to note the plight of the Tamils in Sri Lanka following the action taken by the island nation's government and expressed concern on the issue.
The Union Government should intervene to safeguard the Sri Lankan Tamils and also the Tamil fishermen from the attacks by the Lankan Navy, it said
