Members hold demo before Speaker's Chair
Puducherry, Oct 20 (UNI) Members of the Communist Party of India (CPI) and Puducherry Munnetra Congress (PMC) today staged a demonstration in front of the Speaker's podium seeking to conduct the Winter Session of the Territorial Assembly for ten days.
At the fag end of the session today, the members asked Deputy Speaker A V Sreedharan, who conducted the House today in the absence of Speaker R Radhakrishnan, to hold the session for ten days to discuss the implementation of people welfare schemes.
They also wanted to know the fate of the adjournment motion, calling attention motion and private member resolution tabled by them.
As Mr Sreedharan did not consider their request and asked the members, who gave private member resolutions on the Lankan issue, to read out their resolutions, the members moved to the well of the House and held the demonstration in front of the Speaker's podium.
Mr Sreedharan later announced as the Adjournment Motion given by Mr Viswanathan and Mr Anbazhagan did not pertain to a particular issue, it was rejected.
Similarly, the Calling Attention Motion, tabled by Mr Na Ra Kalainathan was not allowed and the private member resolution of Mr Viswanathan seeking to announce November 1 as the Independence Day of Puducherry could not be taken up as it involved administrative matters.
Following the clarifications, the members resumed their seats.
